Open letter to President Obama. The White House The following letter has been signed by family members of Latino and Latina active duty military personnel, veterans, and soldiers and Marines who gave their lives in the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan: We strongly reject Arizona law SB 1070. The law is an insult to our fallen sons and daughters and to our family members who continue to serve. The law is an insult to all Latino families that have made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation. It humiliates us, treats us as second-class citizens, and threatens to deport us from a nation for which our children have risked their lives. Our sons and daughters went to war without once dreaming that their families would be targeted by the color of their skin. Those on active duty supposedly are risking their lives for American ideals, but with this law they see clearly that if their families must face harassment, incarceration, and deportation these ideals are nothing but empty words. We demand that you as Commander in Chief intervene in a strong way. You must denounce this absurd and racist law and then act quickly to enact just and humane comprehensive immigration reform. We are part of the fabric of this country--some of us adopted her, others were born here. When the military recruiters approached our children, they had no problem with the color of our skin or the immigration status of our families or the fact that some of us were born in Mexico or Guatemala or Colombia. Our children were simply accepted, yet today in Arizona they could be humiliated simply because of the color of their skin. Commander in Chief of the U.S Armed Forces--we demand a solution to this intolerable situation, a solution based on humane, fair, and moral principles that honor the thousands of active duty, fallen, and veteran Latinos and Latinas. They are counting on your support. Our sons and daughters make this demand from their graves and from combat zones around the world. And we demand it from here on American soil. Act now! Si se puede! Carta abierta al presidente Obama
Los abajo firmantes, familias de militares caídos en la guerra de Irak y familias de soldados en activo y retirados manifestamos lo siguiente: Rechazamos enérgicamente la ley SB1070 ya que consideramos que es un insulto a nuestros hijos caídos en combate y a nuestros hijos luchando en las guerras actuales. Consideramos que es un insulto a las familias latinas que hemos dado el ultimo sacrifico por este país y que con leyes como la SB1070 nos humillan y ponen como ciudadanos de segunda o ultima clase. Nuestros hijos fueron y lucharon sin pensar que por el color de la piel de sus padres iban a ser rechazados, humillados y expulsados del país por el cual ellos fueron a morir. Nuestros hijos en activo están dando su valor, exponiendo su vida para defender los ideales y libertades de este país, ya sea adoptado o de nacimiento y con esta ley, ellos ven que esos valores se desmoronan ya que sus padres serán perseguidos únicamente por el color de su piel y por su origen de nacimiento. Exigimos al comandante en jefe de nuestros hijos su enérgica intervención, no solo en palabras , si no en acciones concretas para frenar la aplicación de esta ley absurda, racista e inmoral y segundo que actué de una ves por todas por la reforma migratoria justa y humana que tanto prometió durante su campaña política. Somos parte de este país, lo adoptamos unos, y nacimos otros en sus suelos, no vimos distinción alguna en el color de la piel cuando nuestros hijos fueron reclutados para ingresar al ejercito, no se les puso traba alguna por que sus padres fueran indocumentados o de color cobrizo, nunca tuvieron problemas por ser de origen Mexicano, Argentino, Chileno, Colombiano etc., sencillamente fueron bienvenidos al ejercito y hoy, en un estado de la unión, se hace humillación a esos factores de raza y origen. Sr. Comandante en Jefe de las Fuerzas armadas de los Estados Unidos de Norte America. exigimos una respuesta de su parte, una respuesta con resultados humanos, justos y morales, una respuesta de apoyo a los miles de soldados en activo y veteranos de origen latino que esperan su solidaridad. Nuestros hijos así lo reclaman desde tus tumbas, nuestros hijos así lo reclaman desde la trinchera, nosotros así lo reclamamos desde nuestro suelo americano. Actúe Ya!!! Si se puede!!!.

"A Senseless Death"   <!--[if !supportLists]--> A war has been raging in Iraq for the last five years. American soldiers are increasingly exhausted by a conflict that grags on whitout an end in sight. For the first time in its history,the American Army is not making its recruitment quotas. Yet there is an almost inexhaustible supply of new recruits among young immigrants,both legal and ilegal. Five soldiers of Latin American origin were among the first casualties of the Iraqi war. Three did not have American citizenship. Jose Antonio Gutierres and jesus Alberto Suarez de Solar were among them. Jose Antonio was one of the first U.S. Army soldiers to die in Bagdad. Has from Guatemala. Just a few days after the conflict began, Jesus Alberto stepped on an American mine hidden in the sands of the Iraqi desert, He was from Mexico. His father Fernando Suarez del Solar has been fighting ever since. He wants to halt the aggressive tactics of U.S. Army recruiters who target Hispanic kids in American high schools.
